Menopause Management

Menopause is not a disease state — it is a normal phase of life. Changes that happen around the time of menopause are not limited to cessation of menstruation and hot flashes but include many mental, physical, and sexual symptoms. While some women welcome not having to worry about periods, others find these changes to be challenging, disruptive, or even debilitating, particularly during perimenopause (the time just before menopause). Diet, exercise, and over-the-counter remedies can be helpful, but when those aren’t enough to alleviate symptoms, there are treatment options available. Also, as women are living longer, there are concerns about bone mass and cardiovascular health related to menopause. As you age and go through different phases of life, you can talk with your provider about ways to manage and treat any troublesome symptoms and to plan ahead.
